Research conducted with residents of foreign countries must be approved by the IRB.
Due to different social norms and regulations in other countries, the IRB may require that researchers provide additional information in responding to some of the IRB guidelines and policies.
Moreover, researchers must follow the rules and regulations of the country in which they are planning to conduct the study. These situations are handled on a case-by-case basis by the IRB in consultation with researchers knowledgeable about research with non-U.S. populations. Researchers should provide relevant cultural information to the IRB about the participants to be studied.
